Grand Theft Auto United is a modification based on GTA San Andreas for the PC. The target of this modification is to unite in only one game the game areas, the so called 'maps', of the two GTA Games GTA III and Vice City on basis of the graphic- and physic engine of 'GTA San Andreas'. The map of 'GTA San Andreas' therefore gets replaced.
'GTA United' is exclusive for the two GTA-Fansites www.gtainside.com and www.gta-worldmods.de and is only allowed to be hosted on these two sites. Furthermore, GTA United is not commercial, the developer team doesn't earn money with the modification, but create it free for everyone to access it on GTA-Worldmods and GTAInside.
Then there is to say, that the modification Grand Theft Auto United doesn't stand in any relation or association to Rockstar Games, Rockstar North or Take Two; the rights and therefore the copyright on the names 'Grand Theft Auto', 'GTA III', 'GTA Vice City' and 'GTA San Andreas' owns Rockstar Games.
How everything has begun
On the 05.03.2006 was the birth of 'GTA United'. Back then Aschratt got the idea, to convert the map of 'GTA Vice City' to 'GTA San Andreas'. The idea of 'VC2SA' was born. It didn't take long, and the first fellows of Aschratt joined 'VC2SA', the project what was known firstly under the name 'Vice City Mod'. On the 01.04.2007 at 12 o'clock it was finally done. The Beta 1 of 'Vice City 2 San Andreas' were released; the first step was done. VC2SA didn't need to fear competition back then.
Meanwhile now the user AMD had on the 30.12.2006 the same idea as Aschratt with 'VC2SA'; with the difference, that AMDs target was, to convert the map of 'GTA III' to 'GTA San Andreas'. The LC2SA Team was founded quickly, too, which finally released on the 02.06.07, 2 months after the release of VC2SA, Beta 1 of 'Liberty City 2 San Andreas'; the second step was done.
The Alliance of the two Teams
The 27.05.2007 was now the day of the important decision for the modification. The two teams of VC2SA and LC2SA, under the leading of Aschratt and AMD, decided to be one big cooperation team; the great modification of GTA-Worldmods and GTAInside, Grand Theft Auto United, was born.
From now on the team worked no longer separated on the targets to replace the map of 'GTA San Andreas' with the map of 'GTA III' or 'GTA Vice City' - they worked on the target to replace the map of 'GTA San Andreas' with both maps of 'GTA III' and 'GTA Vice City' simultaneously.
The Development needed nearly six months, but was finally crowned with success. On the 03.11.2007, one week after the announcement that the VC2SA and LC2SA Teams transformed into one big team, the Beta 1 of 'GTA United' was released, which replaced now the map of 'GTA San Andreas' with the map of 'GTA III' and 'GTA Vice City'; what wasn't the whole time in dry towels.
The next milestone was Beta 1.1 of 'GTA United' that was released on the 05.04.2008. In this Beta 1.1 many bugs were fixed and also new things were added.
After the release of 'GTA United 1.1', the next step, the development of 'GTA United 1.2' has begun. From this point on, the progress on the mod came step by step, impaired by the quitting of more and more team members, including the originally leaders Aschratt and AMD. GTA United 1.2 released, after more than 4 years of development, on the 16.12.2012, now under the leading of ATP and LiveLife. This represents the latest and largest milestone in the 'GTA United' History. So 'GTA United 1.2' is not only a new version, it's a new experience. It has a completely improved technical background, so there is a new limit adjustment system and also the map and script structure has been overhauled from the ground up, so the game is significantly more stable now. On the features side, 'GTA United 1.2' contains tons of map improvements, like fixed rooftops, new garages, new shops and various accessible interiors.
